Abstract
Employing quadratic nonlinearities, the possibility of phase-independent all-optical modulation and switching has been addressed with use of three-wave interactions with polarization non degenerate inputs and/or self-guided beams in space.1,7 All-optical transistors and spatial solitary waves (SSW) have been demonstrated via Type II second-harmonic generation (SHG) in KTP crystals.3,4,6,7 In both cases, control features were implemented via an intensity imbalance between orthogonal input components at the fundamental frequency.
